La cantante titolare viene investita da un'automobile alla vigilia della prima. Il regista si crede un genio e ha previsto una messa in scena con corvi in giro per il palcoscenico. Betty, che sostituisce la protagonista, è giovanissima. Nonostante tutto questo la prima del "Macbeth" di Verdi è un trionfo. Ma la povera Betty non fa in tempo a godersi il successo perché si trova subito coinvolta in una serie di omicidi. Niente di strano, visto che nell'ambiente della lirica si dice che quest'opera verdiana porti male.
